65,000 photographers present over a million pictures. In this issue: urban and rural impressions, at times in colour, at times in black and white.
Image 1: “While on my way out to work, I passed by the 491 Space – a former radio station site renovated into a cultural centre. I was inspired by the vibrant, rich colours of the sky and the building itself, combined with its crisp, vivid lines. I was grateful that I had brought my camera.” – Huan Gao

Image 2: “Chinatown in New York City is one of my favourite places to photograph. Canal Street – which leads through Chinatown – is revealed from the Manhattan Bridge. With its various architectural styles, Chinese shop signs and ever-present traffic, this is New York City at its purest.” – Jonathan Varjabedian

Image 3: “I took this photo in Norwich, East Anglia, where there’s a thriving vintage American car subculture, possibly a remnant of the presence of the US Air Force during the Cold War. This car suffered the cold and wet British winter. With little space to get a full body shot, I settled for the details.” – Robert Evans

Image 4: “This image was taken on a foggy morning at Haworth in West Yorkshire. I knew that the atmospheric moors would be a great place to visit for some moody black and white photos. I spotted this bench with flowers on it, overlooking a large pond. The scene was somehow eerie and magical.” –Paul Melling

Image 5: “This image is part of my S·he project, which presents women in historical roles, in order to address how they have been absent in the way stories of exploration and discovery have traditionally been told. With a hand-painted background and custom-made garment, this particular picture established the foundation for my entire project.” – Michal Baginski

Image 6: “I was searching for a hut to provide refuge from the fog and rain, as I waited for dawn to break over the German Black Forest. For me, these huts represent protected places for those in need – a concept seemingly much forgotten these days. This picture is meant to inspire contemplation – and it motivated me to develop a whole series.” – Werner Knecht

Image 7: “This photo is one of a series of pictures of my father-in-law, Curtis Wittie, who is already 90 years old, but still in good health. He has lived on the same ranch in Louisiana for over 50 years, and still works his 80 acres, harvesting hay and raising a herd of 20 cattle. He lives with his wife of 63 years.” – Tyler Vance

Image 8: “My friend and I were walking past a field of sunflowers, near the old city of Shaxi in Yunnan province, China, when she suddenly tossed her hat in the air and shouted, ‘Long live freedom!’ We then ran through the field, enjoying the feeling of pure freedom in that moment, and I captured this joyful scene.” – Maggie Wu
