Alexandra Catiere: Fraises
As the fourth invited artist of the Instants residency programme (established in 2023 by Château Palmer and its long-time partner, Leica Camera), Alexandra Catiere visited the heritage-steeped winery throughout the seasons – casting her contemplative gaze on the estate and its activities. Drawing on the materiality and history of her location, Catiere spanned the arc of time: her condensed images – a synthesis of delicate layers – capture the quiet presence of a natural world that runs through, and outlasts, the generations of men and women who have inhabited it.
“This residency has been a true carte blanche,” the artist explains. “It allowed me to explore something that has always fascinated me: the idea that history does not unfold chronologically, but is distilled within us. I was not trying to freeze the present moment, but to reveal the depth of time – this invisible accumulation that makes a place breathe long after those who inhabited it have gone. This also gave rise to the title of this body of work: Everything Here Will Outlive Me. It was born not out of melancholy, but as a serene certainty.”
