Initiated as a regional photo competition in Poland, the Leica Street Photo Contest now attracts great international interest. Traditionally, the contest is open not only to professionals, but also to amateurs. This year, the number of submissions was once again overwhelming: 2803 people from 103 countries took part in the 15th edition, submitting a total of over 12,000 photographs. The Leica Gallery Vienna is showing 29 works that made it to the final selection and from which the jury has chosen the best picture: the winner is polish photographer Dawid Łozowicki who is based in Oslo.
The jury's statement reads: “In a world defined by constant movement, noise, and visual overload, a photographer needs to stick to the basic task: condense the speed of a moment, the complexity of a scene in one image in order to achieve an emotional transfer to the audience. All the works selected for this exhibition demonstrate a remarkable ability to isolate these moments. However, one image stood out by its unprecedented ability to focus in chaos. The winning photograph of the 15th Leica Street Photo Contest manages to transform a complex situation full of multidirectional forces into a clear narrative. This is a rare case where the multilayered structure of an image fully resonates with its emotional weight. It’s funny, magical and theatrical at the same time.”
The jury’s unanimous agreement further confirmed the decision to award this photographer the top prize, a Leica Q3 43. His work not only fulfilled but surpassed the competition’s criteria for creativity, originality, and impact. This outstanding accomplishment highlights the artist’s exceptional talent and firmly establishes him as a well-deserved winner of this year’s competition.
Congratulations!
