9th Triennial of Photography Hamburg

Mathew Thorne and Derik Lynch: Marungkatjalatjunu (dipped in Black), 2019-2023
Curated by artistic director Mark Sealy, this year’s festival presents eleven exhibitions in eight renowned museums and institutions across Hamburg. The 2026 edition centres on a photographic practice that engages with a diverse range of experiences and ways of life – including those that are unfamiliar – fosters community, and counteracts the historic use of photographic representations as tools of violence and oppression.
The participating venues are: Deichtorhallen Hamburg (comprising the Hall for Contemporary Art, the PHOXXI – Temporary House of Photography, the F.C. Gundlach Collection, and the Falckenberg Collection); Bucerius Kunst Forum; Hamburger Kunsthalle; Kunstverein in Hamburg; MARKK – Museum am Rothenbaum (World Cultures and Arts); Museum of Work; and the Museum of Art and Industry (MK&G).
