Torture is Not Talked About

Photographer José Giribás Marambio travelled to 13 locations in his home country of Chile – including Santiago, Valparaíso and Punta Arenas – to create a visual document of the places in which people were systematically tortured and murdered under Pinochet’s regime. The resulting series will now be presented in Berlin, together with portraits and reports of around 20 survivors. The deeply poignant photographs are intended to commemorate the victims and their suffering, and help those who survived come to terms with the past. ‘Torture is Not Talked About’ will be on display at the Tapir Gallery from 1 to 21 October 2018.
On 10 and 17 October, Artist Talks and guided tours will take place at the gallery, starting at 19:00. On 1 October, Berlin’s Ibero-American Institute will host a panel discussion on the topic ‘Places of Repression in Chile between 1973 and 1990, and their Significance as Memorial Sites up until the Present Day’.
