The Myth of Klaus Kinski

October 23, 2025

From October 24 to December 5, 2025, the Beyond.Reality Gallery in Berlin presents Beat Presser’s exhibition KLAUS – featuring iconic images of the enigmatic actor Klaus Kinski.
Leica photographer Beat Presser first met Klaus Kinski in 1977 in Paris, where the actor was filming Madame Claude. Presser visited the set to photograph Kinski for the art and culture magazine The Village Cry, of which he was the founder.

In 1981, Presser accompanied legendary director Werner Herzog into the Amazonian rainforest, working as a photographer and camera assistant on Herzog’s film Fitzcarraldo – starring Claudia Cardinale and Klaus Kinski. This was followed by another intense collaboration with both Herzog and Kinski during the filming of Cobra Verde, shot in Africa and South America in 1987.

Beat Presser’s photographs of Klaus Kinski have long been considered iconic, and have significantly contributed to the mythos that surrounds the late actor to this day.

To complement the exhibition, the gallery is hosting an Artist Talk on Saturday, November 8, 2025. Advance registration is required.
