Among the represented photographers are Ute Mahler and Werner Mahler, whose landscape views of the concrete barrier are juxtaposed with later works, showing the same locations after the reunification. Images by Arno Fischer portray everyday life in East Berlin, while works by Harald Hauswald focus on the era’s subcultures. Barbara Köppe gives insight into the lives of women in the GDR. The showcase also features works by press photographer Barbara Klemm – renowned as the ‘chronicler of the reunification’ – whose coverage of the fall of the iron curtain yielded some of the era’s most iconic images.
