Prior to the exhibition, another Viennese venue will also celebrate the artist’s oeuvre: on April 6, 2022, six of Dziworski’s short films will be screened at the Austrian Film Museum – including the 22-minute ‘Sceny narciarskie z Franzem Klammerem’ (Skiing Scenes with Franz Klammer) from 1980. The artist will be in attendance.
Bogdan Dziworski’s images occupy a special place within the canon of Polish post-war photography. Imbued with a distinctive cinematographic quality, his black and white photographs are reminiscent of film stills – taken from movies by, perhaps, Andrzej Wajda or Janusz Morgenstern. His unique images capture fleeting moments of ordinary life in all their vibrancy and beauty.
Born 1941 in Łódź, Poland, Bogdan Dziworski graduated from the National Film, Television & Theatre School before working with the Polish Film Chronicle (a 10-minute newsreel shown in cinemas before the start of the main movie) and the Polish film company ‘Zespoły Filmowe’. As a film-maker, he specialises in the documentary format – producing mostly short films and featurettes.
The LFI paid tribute to Dziworski's works in the "Leica Classics" section in issue 7/2018.
