Shaping the Story

August 3, 2016

Deadline extended: the LFI workshop with Daniel Etter from September 9 to 11.
Daniel Etter opens the second half of this year’s LFI workshop programme. With Shaping the Story, the Pulitzer Prize-winner will show participants how to turn photos series into a coherent whole that brings the essence of the work to the point. Etter’s reportage, In Peril on the Sea, appeared in LFI 3/2016.

How to tell a story through images? How to convey the character of our subjects through a portrait series? In this workshop, award-winning photographer Daniel Etter will guide participants’ photo stories or series towards a finished, well-rounded project that encapsulates the essence of the topic.

Participants will be asked to develop a photo story or series ahead of the workshop, which will then be edited together during the workshop. It can either be an elaboration of an existing project or a newly started one. About a month before the workshop, participants will be asked to sketch the outlines of the project and present images via email. They will then be given specific tasks to develop it further and give it a more focused shape. At the workshop, the projects will be edited together and possible outlets or publishing opportunities researched.

The LFI workshop with Daniel Etter runs from September 9 to 11. Further information and registration can be found at: www.lfi-online.de.
