Open Call: Stuttgart Summer of Photography

February 7, 2024

Submissions for this year’s Fotosommer Stuttgart are accepted until 15 February; the best entries will be presented at THE GÄLLERY - Raum für Fotografie in July 2024.
Fotosommer Stuttgart was conceptualised as a biennial event centred around an international competition and a number of fringe exhibitions. Its first edition, which was held in 2002 at the Galerie 14-1 under the title of Young Photography in Stuttgart, was followed by increasingly large-scale events in a series of different venues.

This year’s Fotosommer Stuttgart will revolve around THE GÄLLERY – Raum für Fotografie: an expansive exhibition space located on the ground floor of the Stuttgart State Gallery. Inaugurated in 2022, THE GÄLLERY is primarily dedicated to showcasing images from the museum’s own photography collection, and will also be used to host future exhibitions of the Wüstenrot Grant for Documentary Photography.

In addition, the rooms of THE GÄLLERY have now been made available for the upcoming Stuttgart Fotosommer: from 18 to 27 July 2024, THE GÄLLERY will host the biennial’s main exhibition – comprising a top-jury selection of images on the topic of Transformation. Interested photographers are invited to submit their work by 15 February 2024.

This Open Call is aimed at all artists who work with the medium of photography, students from the fields of art, design and photography, as well as photography apprentices and assistants. All genres are permitted; entries can be made either in the form of single images, or self-contained series.

The expert jury will be looking for high-quality works that are well-presented, and have been realised in a consistent manner.
