Leica Gallery Salzburg presents Reading Time – Photographs and Moving Images by Donata Wenders: on view from 25 July to 21 September 2021.
Donata Wenders (b. 1965 in Berlin) started her artistic career as a cinematographer for feature films and documentaries. Since 1995, she has dedicated herself to her work as an independent photographer – gaining international renown for her classic visual language, expressed predominantly in black and white. In 2015, she expanded her repertoire with short films and audiovisual installations that reflect her cinematic roots. The artist also frequently works as a set photographer in conjunction with her film director husband, Wim Wenders.

Reading Time brings together a selection of Wenders’ still-photo series and video installations: atmospheric street scenes and painterly motion studies are complemented by the photographer’s latest series, Komorebi Dreams (2022), as well as images taken on the set of Wim Wenders’ movie Perfect Days (2023). The exhibition offers a unique insight into Donata Wenders’ creative vision, and her gift for capturing intimate and emotive moments.

Wenders’ photographs have been presented in international exhibitions and magazines such as Rolling Stone, The New York Times and Vogue. She has also created numerous book and album covers for artists such as Bono, Jon Hassell, Sam Phillips and Die Toten Hosen.
