The role of women in our society is a central theme in the oeuvre of Antonia Gruber, who investigates and reflects on the different expectations and ideals of femininity within era-specific contexts. Her mode of expression is not limited to one discipline: the artist carefully chooses the most suitable medium and materials depending on the subject matter at hand.
Christian Coigny predominantly works with analogue film. His visual approach is rooted in his classic photography training, yet is also strongly influenced by American painters such as Edward Hopper, Georgia O’Keefe or Andrew Wyeth, which he discovered while spending five years living in San Francisco.
Heinz Neumärker was among a small number of artists to produce in-depth documentations of circus life in the twentieth century: few photographers have addressed this topic with the same intensity and dedication as Neumärker, whose extraordinary long-term project spanned five decades, from the 1950s to the turn of the millennium.
