The Alfred Ehrhardt Foundation in Berlin presents Another Pencil of Nature – Part 2. The exhibition is open from 20 September to 21 December 2014.
Until now, social and urban themes have been the predominant subject of Michael Wesely's long exposure photographs. His new series Another Pencil of Nature – Part 2 references the beginnings of photography in the 19th century.

For this project, Wesely extracted sections of photographs from his own archive – opening up new perspectives by presenting subjects in an isolated form. The resulting images transcend photography, revealing the timeless and almost painterly element of the medium.

By focusing our attention on large-format details of the natural world, familiar subjects take on a surreal appearance: a snowy treetop appears like a spectacular avalanche, while the sky above Berlin's Jewish Cemetery seems interlaced with iridescent rays of light.
