Around 65 000 photographers present over 1 million images in the LFI Gallery. In this issue: colorful outfits and especially fast geese.
Image 1: “To many, the Melbourne Cup is less about the horse races and more about getting dressed up and enjoying the classy atmosphere and festivities. I was fascinated by the women in opulent outfits, taking a break – maybe to take a look at the horses – before returning to the fanfare.” – Sally Coggle

Image 2: “This picture was taken in the city of Kashgar, in the autonomous Uyghur region of Xinjiang, China. Two girls were playing on a parked truck. The girl at the wheel lifted the truck-bed, so the other nearly slid out. ‘Be careful!’ I called out; but they simply told me not to worry.” – Shang Lin

Image 3: “I lived in Australia for about five months, travelling around that beautiful side of the planet. I took this picture of my friend Andrew off the Mamanuca Islands in Fiji. The Namotu Lefts surf break is known for its consistent barrels. I kept my new Leica Q2 in the Sub 13 underwater case.” – Victor Quirch

Image 4: “I took this picture in Ningxia, China. While speeding along in a motorboat we were accompanied by a flock of wild geese. I photographed the goose nearest to me at a flat angle from the boat window. The image turned out so dynamic. I love humans and animals coexisting.” – Mark Ma Ke

Image 5: “I was exploring São Tomé with my Leica M6, when my eye was caught by Chango, with his nonchalant air and bike labelled Swagger. We began chatting and we got along well. At times I can tell if someone is open to being photographed. It’s a fine line I love to walk, no matter where I am in the world.” – Felix Vollmann

Image 6: “Little stores line the narrow alleyways of Nandgaon, India, the birthplace of Krishna. They disappear in the shadows of the ill lit passages. Suddenly, arare ray of light illuminated a woman vending toys and dressed in vibrant colours: a wonderful composition in the midst of chaos.” – Elizabeth Cowle

Image 7: “I was drawn in by the casual attitude among these young sailors. A few hours earlier they had been marching in a parade through the streets of Westminster, honouring their fallen comrades. This was a moment of respite, capturing the young men’s deep sense of connection.” – Chris Mozyro
