Image 1: “I took this picture at the Ha Linh lantern manufacturer in Hôi An, Vietnam. This production is one of the city’s oldest and most valuable traditions. I’ve always been fascinated by the way each lantern is created with the highest precision, craftsmanship and dedication.” – Michael Siy

Image 2: “Since 1987 I’ve been documenting life in Varanasi – one of the oldest cities in India and holiest places of the Hindu faith. This image came about shortly after I’d purchased my first digital Leica. I often walk down this alley, because the light illuminates daily miracles every time I do.” – Russell Shakespeare

Image 3: “After several hours at Kaiyuan Temple in Quanzhou, I succeeded in taking pictures of the women in their traditional garb. This motif fascinated me as soon as I shot it. It was only upon further, that I grasped the care with which the wreath had been crafted.” – Peter Christl

Image 4: “The installation of big blue pipes at the Helsinki Biennale immediately reminded me of the Sibelius monument there, in both shape and presence. As the person in the blue jacket stepped into the frame, human and structure seem to meld into one within the image composition.” – Marko Laitinen

Image 5: “This aerial photograph was taken during a doorless helicopter flight, suspended high above the San Francisco Bay. I was very lucky, because the weather was ideal and even more so because the pilot perfectly positioned us so I could take several stunning sunset pictures.” – Artem Postelnikov

Image 6: “In La Guajira, Colombia, Wayuu women gather to dance La Yonna – a traditional dance of life and ancestry. At the decisive moment, protagonist Aurora glanced over at her companions, striking a lively and powerful balance between movement, tranquillity and love of freedom.” – Chino Pabón

Image 7: “This picture was taken at the Festa Major de Gràcia in Barcelona, a vibrant celebration exemplifying Catalan tradition and culture in its most intense form: music, fire, community and pride. I stood in the middle of the thick smoke and energetic crowd during Correfoc – the traditional fire race.” – Matteo Ianni Palarchio

Image 8: “I took this picture at the Songkhla Central Mosque in southern Thailand’s Songkhla province. The blue glass windows doused the entire interior of the edifice in cool blue, while a single door glowed red. A man entered to pray, and I captured the moment he passed by the door.” – Thaveechai Sirikulthada
