Fragile Wonders

Direct, powerful, yet brimming with poetry: Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg dedicates a comprehensive exhibition to Paolo Pellegrin’s almost surreal nature photography and video projects.
An enormous iceberg, glowing lava, barren desert landscapes, magnificent vegetation, paradisiacal wildlife habitats, and the last two living northern white rhinos – Paolo Pellegrin’s images take us on a powerful journey around the world. From Iceland to Costa Rica, from Greenland to Namibia, from Italy to Japan, and from Germany to Australia, he traces the effects of climate change, and shines a light on the state of our natural world. The impetus for this project was a NASA research trip to Antarctica in 2017, which the photographer joined, in order to document the dramatic impact of global warming on our environment.

Paolo Pellegrin (b. 1964, Italy) is a multi-award-winning documentary photographer who has been a member of the renowned Magnum Photos agency since 2005. With ‘Fragile Wonders’ – open from 25 November 2023 to 7 April 2024 – Kunstmuseum Wolfsburg dedicates a comprehensive showcase to the artist’s photo and video projects. Curated by Dino Steinhof, the exhibition not only highlights the direct and indirect consequences of the climate crisis, but also creates a space for viewers to see our planet with new eyes – recognising the unique, breathtaking beauty we must strive to protect.
