Famous Icons & Forgotten Gems

March 21, 2024

The exhibition Re-Discovered continues at the Photography Forum of the Aachen City Region until 7 April 2024.
Curated by Photography Forum director Dr. Nina Mika-Helfmeier, this comprehensive showcase takes us on a journey into the 1930s. The exhibition title, Re-Discovered, conveys a two-fold invitation to the viewer: on the one hand, the presentation comprises artistic positions that have previously received little attention; at the same time, the featured works reveal aesthetic trends that first emerged in the 1930s, and went on to have a lasting influence on generations of photographers.

With images by artists such as Walker Evans (1903–1975), Anton Stankowski (1906–1998), Fide Strucks (1901–1985) and Edith Tudor-Hart (1908–1973), the showcase is as impactful as it is diverse. The common thread that binds the exhibits together – and creates a cohesive curatorial arch – is that all of the presented approaches are rooted in an era of exceptional upheaval.
