The winner of the 2014 EPAP – European Publishers Award for Photography has been announced: it is the Ukrainian photographer Kirill Golovchenko with his Bitter Honeydew project. In addition to the prize, which will be officially handed to him at the Arles Photo Festival, five European publishers will simultaneously publish the project in book form, each in their own language.
Kirill Golovchenko, who is currently on the move with a Leica M from the LFI loan pool, dedicates his project to the people at the night time street markets in the Ukraine. During the summer months, they are located on the country's main roads, drawing people from different parts of the former Soviet Union. The street merchants try to improve their income by selling their wares during the warm season, so that after the harvest they can survive the winter a little better prepared.
The EPAP is an initiative launched by Kehrer Publishers (Germany), Actes Sud (France), Dewi Lewis Publishing (England), Blume (Spain) and Peliti Associati (Italy), and is now in its 21st year. Participation is open to photographers from all over the world.
