On 30 November, Swiss photographer and graphic artist Ernst Scheidegger will celebrate his 90th Birthday. His photojournalistic work and artists portraits have shaped an entire chapter of photographic history. For decades, he also created the weekend supplement layout of Neue Zürcher Zeitung. To mark the photographer's birthday, the Folkwang Museum presents an exhibition which highlights Ernst Scheidegger's role as a collector.
As a member of the Magnum agency in the early fifties, Scheidegger used to exchange photographs with famous colleagues such as Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa and Werner Bischof. The Folkwang Museum was recently able to acquire this collection supported by the Krupp Foundation.
The exhibition features photographs by Werner Bischof, Robert Capa, Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ernst Haas, George Rodger, Ruth Orkin, David Seymour and Ernst Scheidegger.
