Kadir van Lohuizen’s expedition began on the Norwegian island of Spitsbergen. He then travelled to Greenland, where he encountered scientists who had recently discovered a network of frozen rivers beneath the glacier. After spending time in a small island community off the coast of Canada, he visited Kivalina – an indigenous village in Northern Alaska that is currently predicted to disappear underwater by 2025.
Yuri Kozyrev focused on the routes between Russia’s Arctic sea ports. He accompanied some of the region’s last nomadic reindeer herders on their seasonal migration, travelled by ship along the coastline of the Barents Sea, and spent time aboard the cargo vessel Montchegorsk. His journey also included a visit to Murmansk, where the first floating nuclear power plant is currently under construction.
