Design Award for Leitz Park

February 20, 2016

German Design Club (DDC) honours Leica Museum and Store design at Leitz Park with Silver award.
Walking into the foyer of Leica Camera AG in Wetzlar, visitors enter into an exciting world of experience, completed by an extensive Leica Store. A new feature has recently been added to the visitors' circuit: an impressive 17-meter long timeline showing the most significant milestones in the company's 160-year history. Developed by the Frankfurt-based design company KM7, this visual representation impressed not only the venue's visitors, but also the jury of the German Design Club. As a result, the Leica Museum and Leica Store won the Silver award in the Space/Architecture category of the Club's recent 'Good Design' competition.

The timeline offers an overview of the history of Leitz and Leica, spanning from the founding of the the Optical Institute in Wetzlar in 1849 to the company's relocation to Leitz Park in 2014. In addition, significant product introductions throughout the eras demonstrate the development of photography from its earliest beginnings to today. The presentation also includes major inventions and world-historical events, making it a highly comprehensive and informative feature.

The World of Leica (located at No. 5 Leitz Park, Wetzlar) is open to the public from Monday to Friday between 10.00 and 20.00, as well as Saturday and Sunday from 10.00 to 18.00. Opening times for the Leica Store are Monday to Friday from 10.00 to 18.00, and Saturday from 10.00 to 16.00.
