Established in 2012, the CAP Contemporary African Photography Prize is awarded annually to five photographers whose work engages with the African continent or its diaspora. The 25 projects shortlisted for this year’s CAP Prize were selected by an international jury from a pool of 800 entries. The five winners will be announced at the Photo Basel International Art Fair in September 2020.
The finalists for the 2020 CAP Prize are (in alphabetical order): Alia Ali (Morocco) Roger Anis (Egypt), Ramzy Bensaadi (Algeria), Flávio Cardoso (Angola), Margaret Courtney-Clarke (Namibia), Cesar Dezfuli (Spain), Rahima Gambo (Nigeria), Gianluigi Guercia (South Africa), Skander Khlif (Germany), M’hammed Kilito (Morocco), Seif Kousmate (Morocco), Nora Lorek (Sweden), Gosette Lubondo (DRC), Mehdy Mariouch (Morocco), Frédéric Noy (Kazakhstan); Lee-Ann Olwage (South Africa), Onwumere Chukwudi (Nigeria), Gloria Oyarzabal (Spain), S.K. Lynn (France), Ugo Woatzi (Belgium), Ismail Zaidy (Morocco), and Fares Zaitoon (Egypt).
