Behind the Velvet Rope

June 25, 2025

Leica Gallery in New York presents Landon Nordeman’s solo exhibition, Last Night – on view from June 26 to July 27, 2025.
Shot over the course of a decade, Landon Nordeman’s series Last Night offers an instinctive, flash-lit look at the rituals of social performance in the exclusive world of high-society parties. With a visual language that combines bold colours, theatrical framing and surreal timing, Nordeman captures the strangeness, humour and spectacle that unfolds when socialites and superstars gather to celebrate the most beautiful things in the world… themselves!

Working up close and among his protagonists, Nordeman uses his camera and flash to capture these well-practiced interactions – creating unexpected images that simultaneously stylise and humanise those he portrays. Amidst the seductive interplay between fashion and physicality, shadow and colour, he discovers honest moments within the artifice. Last Night is both a record and a reflection of a world on the verge. Of what, we don’t yet know. Collapse? Transcendence? Nordeman’s images pose the question: are we distracting ourselves while the world is burning, or laughing in the face of oblivion? And is there really a difference?
