B+W 093 Infrared 830 F PRO B+W

The Leica M8 makes it easier than virtually any other digital camera to conjure surreal attributes into the image with the use of infrared light. For design reasons, the IR barrier filter in the glass cover of the M8's image sensor is extremely thin. For conventional photography with the M8 it is therefore recommended to use an additional IR cut filter.

The M9, M-E and M Monochrom are however just as suitable for experimenting with the effects of capturing long waves. All that is needed to facilitate such dramatic visual transformation is a lens filter such as the 093 Infrared 830 F PRO by B+W. Manufactured from premium grade, finely polished and streak-free optical glass, the filter blocks out the entire spectrum of visible light – enabling you to create pure infrared photographs.

As IR filters require considerably prolonged exposures, it is advisable to work with a stable tripod. Given that the exposure meter is designed to measure visible light, relying on automatic exposure mode would be futile – the best way to determine the optimal exposure is to shoot a trial series.
