Leica Camera licences Intellectual Ventures' patent portfolio
Leica Camera AG has licensed a Intellectual Ventures (IV) patent portfolio, so as to strengthen Leica Camera's strategy and position in relation to intellectual property.

Under the agreement, the Wetzlar manufacturer of cameras and sports optical products receives a licence for IV's patent portfolio with close to 40,000 intellectual property values in over 50 technological areas, which also include digital picture processing. In addition, Leica takes part in IV's strategic defence programme IP-!for!-!Defense!, that supports companies with impending patent battles. The agreement allows Leica to access IV's growing patent portfolio at need, to secure its business.

“As one of the best known camera manufacturers in the world, we have long recognized the value of inventions that continually drive innovation and allows us to bring new products onto the market,” Leica Camera AG CEO, Alfred Schopf, explains. “IV is an important partner who helps us secure our access to the latest technologies and product innovations.”
