Healing Powers

Kuba Kamiński’s series ‘Šeptuchy/The Whisperers’ will be on show at the Leica Gallery in Prague from April 15 to June 6, 2021. The Polish Leica photographer (b.1985) repeatedly travelled to Belarus and the Polish region of Podlesie to document the lives of local healers – known as ‘the whisperers’. It is their belief that God gave them a divine gift that allows them to heal all manner of illnesses and conditions.

With this series, the photographer – who spent several years working as a war reporter – presents one of his most personal projects to date. The compelling black and white images combine Kamiński’s photojournalistic approach with profound visual symbolism. ‘Šeptuchy/The Whisperers’ won second place in the NPPA Best of Photojournalism contest as well as the Polish Grand Press Photo Award.
