With this double exhibition, the Infocus Gallery creates a fascinating dialogue between the works of renowned French photography artist Gilbert Garcin and those of young Chinese photographer Peikwen Cheng.
Gilbert Garcin was born in La Ciotat, France, in 1929 and now lives in Marseille. Only when he retreated from business life in 1993 did he discover his passion for photography. Since then, he has produced no less than six photography books, as well as being represented in international exhibitions, photo festivals and trade fairs all around Europe.
Peikwen Cheng was born in New York State in 1975. His father is from Tongzhou in Beijing, his mother from Chongqing. Having graduated from Stanford University, where he studied Product Design, he subsequently lived in Taipei, Helsinki and San Francisco, followed by studies at the Qinghua University in Beijing. Since 2007, Peikwen Cheng works as a photographer and designer dividing his time between Beijing and New York.
