Seafarers

In 2016, Hamburg-based Leica photographer Patrick Ludolph spent six weeks travelling the oceans on various Hapag-Lloyd container vessels. The resulting series, titled ‘Seafarers’, documents the life and work of the men he accompanied on board.
For his project Seafarers, Patrick Ludolph captured everyday life on board vast container ships delivering goods across the seas. Over the course of six weeks, he travelled from Singapore to Shanghai, from Hamburg to Le Havre in France, and passed through the Panama Canal from Chile’s Valparaiso to Colombia’s Cartagena. Joining the crews of three ships altogether, he lived alongside the seafarers – watching them work and recording his personal impressions.

The resulting material was collated into a photo-book of around 160 images, presented in 13 chapters. Following its introduction a few weeks ago, hand-signed copies of the book are now available at the LFI shop.
