Color Head

It was the colours that caught Christian Robotti’s eye during a photographic foray around South Beach and moved him to take these pictures. But it was actually his camera that made him decide to turn to colour photography.

“I have never been a ‘color head’. In college, cibachrome was fun but discontinued shortly after I learned the process. So I stayed on course honing my technique with black and white film. In 2008, I bought my first digital camera. The sensor was not capable of rendering the color the way I saw it, the way I feel color should be expressed, so I kept shooting in monochromatic. It wasn’t until I started shooting with the Leica D-Lux (Typ 109), that I began to appreciate color again. Now I walk the streets with color as my focus.

I was walking South Beach when I noticed the following scene unfold: the volleyball game, the young adults in the shadows, and the bright green bottle that the girl was holding. These three layers drew me in. I love the way the light made the bottle glow, and the relationship between those two. I jumped up onto the sea-wall and watched for the moment to completely reveal itself.”
