Wüstenrot Grant – Winners' Exhibition

December 19, 2015

The Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen currently presents the winners of the 10th Wüstenrot Grant for Documentary Photography. The exhibition continues until 3 January 2016.
The exhibition 'Documentary Photography Grants 10 of the Wüstenrot Foundation' is showing at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen until 3 January 2016, comprising the work of Birte Kaufmann ('The Travellers'), Sara-Lena Maierhofer ('The Great'), Arne Schmitt ('The New Inequality') and Kalouna Toulakoun ('In Anticipation of Great Storms').

Applicants for the 10th Wüstenrot Grant for Documentary Photography explored the circumstances, processes and consequences of people living in close proximity to one another. The winning artists skilfully distilled this phenomenon into photographic essays, each focusing on individual themes and using different techniques and artistic expressions – so that the displayed works reflect the broad range of the human experience.

Since 1994, the Wüstenrot Foundation has collaborated with the Photographic Collection of the Folkwang Museum in Essen to provide a supporting grant for documentary photography. The grant is given out every two years to four recipients, who each receive 10,000 euros. Specifically aimed at university graduates, the grant enables the realisation of an independent project in the field of documentary photography.
