October 1, 2024

The Visa d’Or Awards are among the most coveted accolades in the world of photojournalism. We present an overview of this year’s winners.
The Visa d'Or News Award, comprising € 8,000, goes to AFP photojournalist Mahmud Hams for his coverage of the conflict in Gaza. Katie Orlinsky, winner of the Visa d’Or Feature Award, also stands to receive € 8,000 for her series Vanishing Caribou, created for the National Geographic.

The Rémi Ochlik Visa d’Or Award (sponsored by the Ville de Perpignan and now in its 18th edition) goes to Loay Ayyoub: a jury of picture editors from international magazines chose the young Palestinian photographer as the best newcomer for his coverage of Gaza for the Washington Post.

This year also marks the debut of the Visa d'Or des Solidarités, funded by the Departement Pyrénées-Orientales; the winner is Pierre Faure with his project On the Fringe of Society in France.
The ICRC Humanitarian Visa d’Or Award – aimed at professional photojournalists who report on the civilian victims of armed conflicts – is awarded to Hugh Kinsella Cunningham. The British photographer stands to receive € 8,000 prize money for his reportage on the plight of the civilian population in eastern DRC.
