Up until March 30, 2014, the Stadthaus Ulm is exhibiting NASA images, as well as photographs by Christian Höhn and Wolfgang Reichmann

The SUOMI NPP satellite circled the earth for 22 days at an altitude of 824 kms, taking photographs of the planet and sending them back to earth. In addition to the scientific observations being carried out, the project produced some rare night-time images. All natural light sources were filtered out, leaving only the artificial lighting created by human civilisation.

Photo artists Christian Höhn (*1968) and Wolfgang Reichmann (*1962) took pictures of some of the planet's mega-cities.

Wolfgang Reichmann created an impressive panorama image of New York at night. Taken from the balcony of the New York atelier of the Austrian Republic, he combined 30 negatives to produce a panoramic overview of the metropolis.

In the meantime, Christian Höhn photographed Chinese mega-cities with over ten million inhabitants. Many of his pictures were taken at night. The uninhibited, sprawling growth of these gigantic cities is both impressive and scary.
