“Thanks to my three children, my series emerged from our family setting. I did not, however, want to produce sweet pictures, but to give them a documentary characteristic.”
Last weekend the Right beside you workshop with photographer Julia Baier took place at the LFI editorial headquarters in Hamburg. The theme of the workshop was one's immediate surroundings: whether the recurrent view from the sitting room window, the portraits of friends or family, action at the corner kiosk, or a changing play of light on the ceiling – it's not necessary to go far away to find good images.

Before the workshop took place, participants were asked to find and photograph personal themes within a 200-metre radius of their homes. Hamburg participant Tim Falkenhagen reports: “Thanks to my three children, my series emerged from our family setting. I did not, however, want to produce sweet pictures, but to give them a documentary characteristic.” The participants discussed and edited the pictures together, so that after a busy weekend completed photo series had been produced.
