Leica Gallery Amsterdam presents the first solo exhibition of photographs by legendary Techno DJ and producer Dave Clarke. On view until 10 November 2024.
With the showcase In the Shatter Light, viewers experience a curated selection of Clarke’s striking monochrome images, including landscapes, portraits and architectural photographs. The exhibition reveals a multi-faceted artist with a unique creative vision. A significant part of the collection features photos taken in Iceland, a place Clarke has been visiting for more than 20 years, and which also inspired his latest album.

Dave Clarke is best known as a DJ and electronic music producer – a career that spans four decades to date. He was even hailed as the ‘Baron of Techno’ by none other than BBC radio presenter John Peel. Clarke has always been a multi-disciplinary talent who has presented radio shows and taught at the Conservatorium Haarlem in the Netherlands.

The UK-born artist, who now lives in Amsterdam, has spent a lifetime honing his craft as a self-taught photographer – from early experiments in his teens to documenting his travels and tours as a DJ with his Leica camera.

The exhibition at the Leica Gallery Amsterdam is the culmination of the organic relationship both between music and photography, and between Clarke and Leica, which started many years ago with the opening of Amsterdam’s first Leica Store.
