The Jury: Leica Oscar Barnack Award 2022

April 4, 2022

Leica Camera announces the jury members for the 42nd Leica Oskar Barnack Award.
This year marks the 42nd edition of the renowned Leica Oskar Barnack Award (LOBA). Once again, the jury will compile a shortlist and select two winners from a pool of nominees put forward by international photography experts.

The 2022 LOBA jury is composed of:
Alessia Glaviano, Head of Global PhotoVogue and Director of the Photo Vogue Festival (Italy); Natalia Jiménez-Stuard, Photo Editor at The Washington Post (USA); Dominic Nahr, photographer (Switzerland); Azu Nwagbogu, Founder and Director of African Artists’ Foundation (AAF) and of LagosPhoto Festival (Nigeria); and Karin Rehn-Kaufmann, Art Director & Chief Representative of Leica Galleries International (Austria).

For the first time, the winner of the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award – aimed at photographers under the age of 30 – will be selected in collaboration with (and based on the proposals submitted by) international institutions and universities from 15 countries. These include the Hanover University of Applied Sciences and Arts – which is particularly renowned for its educational department of Photojournalism and Documentary Photography – along with universities from France, Great Britain, Italy and Austria, as well as non-European partners from every continent of the world.

All shortlisted series will be presented on the LOBA website throughout the summer months. The announcement of the two category winners, and the grand award ceremony, are set to take place in Wetzlar in October 2022.
