The Echo of the World

May 18, 2026

Photo Elysée in Lausanne, Switzerland, presents a monographic exhibition dedicated to the work of Luc Delahaye. The showcase, organised in collaboration with Jeu de Paume in Paris, is on view until May 31, 2026.
Curated by Quentin Bajac, The Echo of the World retraces Luc Delahaye’s work from 2001 to 2025. The French photographer adheres to a documentary approach, distinguished by formal stringency and a reflective engagement with the nature of the image. It speaks to the need for photography to distance itself from the usual media spectacle surrounding current events, and lends a new depth to that which can be observed.

In an age marked by ever-growing floods of images and increasingly blurred boundaries between visual representation and reality, the exhibition highlights the work of a photographer who reflects on the world he encounters, and for whom “the gaze is an action – an act of presence.”

The presentation at the Photo Elysée encompasses photographs captured over the past 25 years, complemented by the monumental installation What’s Going On (2025) – a visual chronicle of contemporary conflicts that explores the meaning of history, violence, beauty, and our ways of perceiving what we see.

Luc Delahaye was born in 1962 in the French city of Tours. As a photojournalist from 1984 onward, he documented countless international crises, conflicts and wars, and was a member of Magnum Photos from 1994 to 2004. He has published numerous photo books and received multiple awards – including the Robert Capa Gold Medal (1992 and 2002), the World Press Photo Award (1993 and 1994) and, in 2000, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award for his series Winterreise
