Documentary Masterclass in Mexico City

The masterclass is aimed at photographers, students and visual journalists striving to develop documentary projects with a focus on socially relevant themes. Theoretical teachings will be complemented by observation exercises, collective editing, and narrative analysis. There will also be optional cultural activities such as a traditional dinner and a Mezcal tasting. The available spaces are limited – registration is now open and can be completed via the Leica Akademie.

Ana Maria Arévalo Gosen (born in Caracas, Venezuela, in 1988) is a visual storyteller focused on the fight for women’s rights and environmental issues. She is a National Geographic Explorer and a member of Ayün Fotografas. Mixing rigorous research with intimate stories, she wants to make a positive impact through her projects. In 2020 she won the LUMIX and Lucas Dolega Awards for her series Días Eternos about the conditions of women in pretrial detention in Venezuela. Días Eternos was published in LFI 3/2019. More
Greta Rico+-
The Mexican documentary photographer, journalist and teacher focuses her work around issues of gender and human rights. Her pictures have appeared in numerous publications, such as The New York Times Magazine and the Washington Post Magazine. They have also been on display worldwide in galleries and museums. Rico has a Master's Degree in Feminist Studies, and is a member of the Advisory Committee of the international Women Photograph platform, as well as the Diversify Photo collective. In 2023, Rico was one of four women photographers to receive the Leica Women Foto Project Award. More
