Tbilisi Photo Festival
September 11, 2017
Studio Suhag by Suresh Pujabi
The event seeks to address the topic in all its facets – from the identity-shaping purpose of fashion, to the ideology behind it and its depiction in the form of a photographic image. Exhibitions range from Guy Bourdin’s avant-garde photographs to Vivian Sassen’s daring approach to the theme. Also featured is a rare collection of 1970s fashion photography from the GDR, as well as never exhibited images originally published in Iranian fashion magazines prior to the Islamic revolution.
Further highlights include the world premiere of the exhibition A Russian Journal Revisited. For this project, Magnum photographer Thomas Dworzak and British author Julius Strauss retraced the steps of their famous predecessors –
Magnum photographer Robert Capa and American writer John Steinbeck – who documented everyday life in Georgia, Russia and the Ukraine two years after the end of Word War II.
