Peter Brüchmann (*1932) began his career as an apprentice for fashion and portrait photographer Lotte Söhring from 1949 to 1952. This was followed by a traineeship at the German Press Agency (DPA), which turned into a staff post from 1954 onwards. Commissions by leading German magazines such as Stern, Revue and Quick soon followed. In 1961, Brüchmann created a reportage on the Beatles during their residency at the Top Ten Club on Hamburg's Reeperbahn, which was published in Quick Magazine in 1966.
From the fifties through to the eighties, Brüchmann captured the stars of film, stage, literature and music – initially in black and white, later in colour. In the years of 1967 and 1968, the Film Ball organised by Burda Publishing yielded many remarkable images, including famous photographs of Romy Schneider.
During the seventies, Brüchmann also spent a period of time living and working in Singapore.
