I would have taken the picture with my original camera, but the lens didn’t fit through the mesh of the fence. The Leica with the 35mm did fit. I peered through the fence like a voyeur, or like a child at Disneyland, and I took this picture while a coat of fluoride dust settled over me and the camera. It’s not really an industrial landscape like other pictures from my Steel Life series, but it does have a connection to my favourite raw material: steel.“

Roberto Salgo+-
Born in Cagliari, Sardinia, in 1959, the photographer began his career in 1995. His reportages from around the world appear in Italian travel magazines. Another focus of his work is set and theatre photography. Salgo has exhibited in Mexico City and Modena, among other places, and one of his Steel Life pictures afforded him an honourable mention at the 2016 International Photography Awards. More
