The Bassenge Gallery in Berlin is hosting a preview of high-end prints and photo books to be sold at their 102nd Photography Auction
The auction's vintage section encompasses a wide range of rare items from around 1850 to present day. The material includes photographs from the colonial era, documenting expeditions and encounters with foreign cultures. An example is the Midden-Sumatra Photographie-Album, created by Dutch explorers in Indonesia during the years from 1877-79. The photographs are particularly notable for their superb colouring.

High-quality modern and contemporary prints will also be on offer, many of them very reasonably priced. Examples include works by American photographer Harry Callahan – his photograph Eleanor, Port Huron (taken in 1954, printed in 1972) depicts his favourite subject: his beautiful wife.

Valued at € 28,000, Thomas Ruff's large-scale print from the series Nudes (2000) is among the highest-priced photographs in the catalogue.

In addition, there is a rich selection of around 200 photo books, including a collection of the design magazine Visionaire – valued at € 12,000.

Previews take place in the gallery space of the Bassenge Auction House, Rankestr. 24, 10789 Berlin.
