“A beautiful sunset and a burning island - it can’t be more basic. I looked back from the ferry and pressed the shutter at the last glimpse of sun light. One nice picture from paradise, that’s the least I have to bring home. I didn’t see the smoke anymore. There was so much in the range finder the last days. I became blind to it. It somehow belonged here. I then looked closer at the picture when we tried to figure out the right layout. The complexity became comprehensible in this shot. As a photographer I search for metaphors. A picture with layers. I usually try to keep away from clichés. Here it’s suddenly part of the construction before it deconstructs itself.”

You will find the full-length reportage in LFI 8/2014.
