People are at the heart of Marino’s oeuvre. Time and again, with curiosity and empathy, the photographer manages to establish a visual, bonding relationship between the viewer and the person in front of them – despite all the ethnic and cultural differences. With his suggestive and direct photography, he tries to draw out the most authentic image possible of those he portrays. The camera doesn’t come across as a disturbing filter, but rather an open mirror.
“I’m very interested in other cultures; in particular the culture of India. The exceptional faces of the Indian people fascinate me as much as their cultural background and their identity.”
In addition to a virtuous use of both black and white and colour, Marino’s portraits reflect a perfect interplay between excerpt and composition. When all is said and done, however, it’s impossible to explain the magic of the photographer’s images down to the tiniest detail – it remains part of the wonderful mystery of his work. Congratulations!
