LIGHT ON ASIA

December 31, 2013

Bernheimer Fine Art Photography in Munich presents Michael Kenna's exhibition Light on Asia, open from 21 February to 26 April 2014
In his third solo exhibition at the Bernheimer Gallery, the Seattle-based photographer takes the viewer on an evocative journey through Japan, China, Vietnam and India with a series of around fifty photographs.

Throughout his career, Kenna has been drawn to deserted places, capturing landscapes such as mountains, lakes or secluded bays, as well as parts of some of the world's largest cities. Depicting only a carefully chosen section of a scene, his images feature strong, highly structured compositions free of incidental detail – allowing the viewer to perceive even the most familiar subject with entirely new eyes.

Kenna has been working with Hasselblad cameras for over twenty years. Rather than using digital editing, the process of developing negatives in the darkroom is an inherent part of his work.
