The Fondation Carmignac’s presentation of an exhibition by Narciso Contreras, winner of the 7th Carmignac Photojournalism Award, at the Pallazzo Reale in Milan, continues on display until May 13, 2017.
The Mexican photographer won the Carmignac Photojournalism Award for a reportage showing that Libya is more than a simple transit country for migrants on their way to Europe; it is also a stronghold of human trafficking, where refugees and asylum seekers are treated like merchandise.
For five months, from February to June 2016, Contreras accompanied people in Libya’s refugee camps, documenting the inhuman conditions there and the mechanisms behind a lucrative human trafficking operation. His impressive, award-winning work reveals the complex and terrifying reality of Libyan society in the post-Gaddafi era.
