The exhibition ‘Urban Impulses’ surveys half a century of Latin American photography – spanning from 1959 to 2016. The selection comprises some 200 works from the extensive collection of Leticia and Stanislas Poniatowski. More than 70 photographers are represented in the exhibition, from famous artists such as Alberto Korda (1928-2001, Cuba), Graciela Iturbide (born 1942, Mexico) and Sergio Larrain (1931-2012, Chile) to lesser-known talents such as Eduardo Longoni (born 1973, Argentina) or Beatriz Jaramillo (born 1955, Colombia).
Through a broad spectrum of artistic approaches – ranging from street photography to collages – the exhibition retraces significant historical events that have marked the urban landscapes of Latin America: the Cuban Revolution, military dictatorships in Argentina, Brazil, Chile and Paraguay, as well as social movements within politically unstable democracies.
