Named after the inventor of the 35 mm camera, the Leica Oskar Barnack Award has been given out annually since 1980. To participate in the 39th edition, photographers are invited to submit their entries until 1 April 2019. Their work should address the interaction between man and the environment. With this very broad theme, the competition allows for a wide scope of creative development and individual ideas.
In addition to the main award, participants under 28 are also able to apply for the Leica Oskar Barnack Newcomer Award. The winners stand to receive Leica camera systems to the value of 10,000 euros, along with a cash prize of 10,000 euros (newcomer award) and 25,000 euros (main award). The ten finalists will be awarded 2,500 euros each.
