Toshio Shibata’s second solo exhibition at the Ibasho Gallery continues in Antwerp until October 10, 2021.

Toshio Shibata is one of Japan’s most famous and respected landscape photographers. He first gained acclaim for his monumental images of large, man-made structures within uninhabited landscapes. ‘Painting/Falling Water’ marks the artist’s second solo show at the Ibasho Gallery – the selected works reflect his career from 1996 to 2019.

Born in Tokyo in 1949, Toshio Shibata graduated with an MFA from Tokyo University of the Arts in 1974, with a primary focus on painting. Thanks to a scholarship from the Belgium Ministry of Education, he subsequently studied at the Royal Academy of Art in Gent (1975 to 1977), where he began to shift his attention to photography.

The celebrated artist’s work has been showcased in numerous exhibitions worldwide.
