For four months, the port of Guilvinec-Léchiagat becomes the backdrop for the Photo du Guilvinec Festival: from June 1 to September 30, 2023, the streets, squares and facades of the two Breton towns will be transformed into an open-air exhibition space; the theme of the festival is L’Homme et La Mer – Man and the Sea.
Visitors are able to experience a broad spectrum of visual approaches. Mathias Depardon, for example, has documented the impact of the depleting water resources of the Tigris and Euphrates rivers, while Tanguy Louvigny uses a special process to combine high and low-tide sequences into a single image. Irish photographer Andrew McConnell shines a light on environmental issues and migration, while the images of Rodrigo Gomez Rovira – who had spent twenty years in exile in France – detail his 45-day voyage on a Polish cargo ship to Chile, the country where he was born.
