In 1989, Romania saw the abrupt fall of the Ceausescu dictatorship – the most brutal dictator in Eastern Europe was history. Really? Just a few month after the December revolution, American photographer Joseph Rodriguez travelled to the traumatised country: three further journeys were to follow. Rodriguez took this self-portrait with his Leica M6 while travelling from Budapest to Transylvania.

The photographer explains that, on that journey, he saw many caravans where Roma families were living; his portfolio in issue LFI 3/2015, reveals what he found when in reached Romania.
